Codeine Rehab

What Happens After Codeine Rehab?

Hopefully, codeine rehab gave you a good starting point to a new life, but, that was just the beginning. What happens after codeine rehab is where the real tests come in.

The Chance to Change Your Life

Your addiction gave you a chance to change your life and this makes recovery both difficult and rewarding. Even good changes can be difficult, but, once you reap the rewards and feel a greater sense of inner peace, integrity, and happiness you’ll probably find it was well worth the effort.

Down the road, many people discover that their addiction was more of a blessing than a curse when they get to that right stage of recovery and while most people are sleepwalking through their lives, you can be looking for the next great adventure.

Relapse Prevention

Attending aftercare and support group meetings is beneficial after leaving a drug rehab program.

In codeine rehab you learned that the longer you remain abstinent, the greater your chances become in preventing relapse. According to the NIDA, “The odds of remaining abstinent rise if patients have been abstinent for 1 to 3 years. After 3 years, the recovery odds remain high and stable.”

Relapse prevention is an ongoing process and living drug free in the community is much more difficult when your rehab counselors and therapists are no longer monitoring you for drug use or guiding you in your coping strategies.

There are 3 stages to relapse including emotional, psychological, and physical. Emotional and psychological distress can set you up for possible relapse and once you get to the physical stage you’re closer to putting it in action.

Support Groups

You built a positive support network in codeine rehab and afterwards, it is so important to take advantage of support groups such as Alcoholics Anonymous or other 12-Step support groups. These groups will offer a safe place to go where you won’t be judged and you will continue to develop the confidence you need to change your life. You can listen and learn from others who are going through the same things and not let your addiction keep you isolated.

Staying Focused on Your Goals

You made some important decisions in codeine rehab and remaining focused on your goals is a main priority. A major part or recovery is self sufficiency to live a productive and independent life. Not everyone will be successful in getting a job immediately, but, when you are free from drugs, you will probably be more open to other opportunities.

Now is the time to take advantage of vocational training or educational resources as well as any referrals and assistance agency resources you are offered. A step up is one step closer to living the life you want.
